The Voopoo Drag X
This pod system has consistently outsold and outperformed everything the market has thrown at it. Even with the arrival of more sophisticated, versatile, powerful, and some would say even better looking pod systems such as the Lost Vape Ursa. In this article we’re going to take at look at exactly why that’s the case and see if the Drag X still stacks up? First off, let’s examine what pod systems are all about and what makes a good one.
Pods, Pods & More Pods!
Okay, so how many pod systems are out there? The list is endless. From the classics like the SMOK Nord, to the Innokin Sensis and everything in between. That’s not to mention Pod Mods, but that’s a subject for another day. So how are we gonna find the right one for you? And what does good mean when it comes to pods anyway? First let’s take a look at why pods are so popular and what factors to take into account when buying one.
Big box mods might throw out big clouds and big flavour, but at a price. They usually need dual 18650 Batteries and big atomisers. They also tend to weigh a fair bit and won’t fit in your pocket. Not very convenient. Whether you vape MTL, RDL or DL, you’re not gonna want a bulky device anytime soon outside of a vape expo or cloud competition right?
At 95mm(h) x 32.5mm (w) x 28mm (d) the Drag X slides neatly even into a suit pocket. Feels and fits nicely in the hand and is compact and powerful.
Although the price of pod systems are usually fairly modest and so replacing one won’t hurt your bank balance too much, you definitely don’t want the bother of a leaky, unreliable vape device. Issues such as leaking, poor battery connection, underpowered battery capacity, loose USB sockets etc. are most frustrating and detract hugely from the pleasurable experience that vaping a good device gives. A simple thing such as a rattling battery door can be really annoying. Especially when it works the connection loose and keeps switching your vape off. So look for something a little more expensive from an established manufacturer, rather than cheap and cheerful is my advice. Those few pounds can really make a difference.
The Drag X is constructed from a Zinc-Alloy Chassis. This makes the pod heavier in the hand and more robust. The weight isn’t too much and actually feels reassuring. The grip is of a leather construction and does it’s job well. Not slipping, even with juicy hands. It’s easy to wipe clean and looks great in a variety of colours and textures. The overall build can only be described as “tight”. The pod magnetically clicks in like a Dyson is in the mod. The coils slide in and out with just enough resistance and the shotgun battery door clicks shut satisfyingly with no play. Overall the finish and construction of the pod is excellent, with all buttons secure and clicky as they should be.
Everybody is always looking for the best flavour. Vaping is flavour driven, period! Larger coils often produce the best flavour, but beware, there’s a trade off to take into account here. Bigger, lower ohm coils burn out quicker and use more battery power. Pods are smaller, but so are the batteries. This is where removable batteries come into play. Any number of pod systems now offer interchangeable battery systems. Just pop open the door and put in a spare 18650 you charged last night. This can increase the size of the pod and restrict you to the slightly bigger pod systems, but as ever in vaping, it’s a balancing act to find the best overall device for you.
The Drag X comes into it’s own here with it’s 0.15 ohm PnP coil. Phenomenal flavour for a pre-built coil. Well rounded and with a lifespan of a few weeks, From 50/50 juices to 100VG, it can take e-liquid viscosity in its stride. No doubt one of my favourite coils on the market today.
So, everybody’s vaping style is slightly different and you may even have several vapes to suit your tastes. As a consequence, many pod devices have been developed to try and give as bigger range of customisation and vaping style options as possible. These include drip tips, interchangeable air flow inserts and rings etc. There are always new ideas. Some work and some are gimmicks! Doing one thing well is usually the best option, but there are devices out there that do several things well. Finding them without great expense is the trick. First of all, decide what you want most and pick a pod that’s primary purpose fits that need. Then look to see what else it can do. Lastly, be honest about your vape knowledge and abilities. Bad set ups equal bad vapes! Don’t buy something that requires advanced building skills if you don’t possess them. That’s gonna be high maintenance and hard work. Try to keep the pleasure in the experience!
Again the Drag X shines here. It’s highly compatible with other Voopoo coils and pods. A fact that’s only rivalled by it’s simplicity of use. This is how it could and should be. Voopoo win and win again in this department. The PnP Coils are designed for Vinci & Drag Pod Mods, the Drag Refresh 2 and Argus series. You can also buy the pods as complete atomisers with a 510 pin. The replacement pods come in standard DL/RDL style, but also offer an MTL all in one option too. They are 2ml capacity, but a quick fish around Ebay will quickly reveal the larger capacity pods. Not only that, but the new Plus Edition TPP tank will fit it, with the added benefit of the real cloud chucking TPP coils. They all pop in with a smooth and reassuring magnetic click that’s just about perfect. No wobble either! As for the range of coils…well there’s no shortage of options. They come crafted in a variety of mesh DL or MTL set-up with rebuildable PnP-RBA option. Personally my favourite is the VM6 (0.15 ohm) as I find it has the best flavour and life expectancy of the range, but in general they’re all good. The exception being the VM1 (0.3) which seems to lose flavour quite quickly. Like 2-3 days quickly! Check out the list below for the full line up.
Styling is purely subjective and there are more than enough pods out there to suit any taste. From big and bold to super sleek, it’s all available. My tip for you is to always place performance before style. It’s tempting to go for what wows you, but you’re not going to be vaping the pod’s looks. Get the flavour and build down and you’ll be happy, and critically, not smoking! This area is obviously where a decent range of styling options is key for any good device manufacturer. More options means a higher chance of selling to more tastes. Do the maths. Find out what’s good, then pick from that the style of vape that most suits your taste.
The Drag X looks sleek, well finished and solid. It comes with a variety of colour and texture options. Both the body, tank and the grip have variants. It’s compact generally is pleasing to the eye. The dual airflow system has a cool metal sliding style, and the shotgun battery door looks good too. The large embossed “DRAG X” on the grip is a nice, well placed piece of branding. There are 2 screen options and the body has a metallic finish in black, grey, and silver. There is also now the Limited Edition version that comes in a nifty presentation box and the Vmate pod included for when stealth vaping is needed. All the grips are leather and mods come in the following options:
- Classic-Black Leather/Red Stitch/Grey Metallic Body

By now I’m sure you’ve gathered that I’m a big fan. As an overall pod system this is just a winner, every time! From it’s sleek looks, reliable performance and great build quality, to the huge range of good and simple to use coils that taste fantastic and have a more than respectable life expectancy. The Drag X just works and it works well. Whether you’re MTL/RDL or DL, this pod system has your needs covered. It won’t break and it won’t fail. I’ve dropped it several times with no problems. It just keeps doing its job. The coils don’t care if it’s 50/50 or 80/20. There’s no dry hits here. No creaks, leaks, rattles or spills. The Drag X is just good and that’s that! Even if you’re looking for a smaller pod system, I still recommend having one of these. Just buy the Limited Edition that include the small, yet flavourful Vmate pod. We sell them here. My official advice…buy one. You won’t regret it!
